# The agent

> Ask the design agent to draw screens, components, tokens and flows in your file, then review, undo or continue what it made.

The agent is a designer you can talk to. Describe a screen or a change and it works directly in your file: it draws frames and auto layout, builds components and variants, sets up variables, adds pages, flows and breakpoints, and places Blocks. The coach checks everything it draws.

Use it to get a first version on the canvas quickly, to do the repetitive part of a task, or to try an idea you would not spend an hour on by hand.

## Talk to the agent

1. Open the **Agent** tab in the left panel.
2. Type in **Ask the agent…**, or pick one of the examples to start.
3. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd> to send. <kbd>Shift</kbd><kbd>Enter</kbd> starts a new line.

The agent works step by step, and you watch it draw. Press **Stop** to halt it. Every change it makes is one undo step, so <kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>Z</kbd> takes back exactly one thing.

## Ask about what is selected

Whatever you have selected goes with your message, shown above the field. Press its name to find it on the canvas, or the cross to send the message without it.

You can also ask at the layer itself: the sparkle on a selection opens a small box beside it, and what you type goes straight to the agent with that layer attached.

## What it can make

Screens and sections, components with variants and properties, states such as hover and disabled, a type scale, a colour ramp, a dark version, loading skeletons, accessibility notes, pages, prototype flows, breakpoints, motion and [Blocks](/guide/carousels). It can look at a picture you select or attach, and the coach checks each frame it writes.

Each frame it writes shows in the conversation with a version tag. Press it to jump to that frame.

## Conversations

The conversation for each file is kept in your account, so it is still there after a reload or on another computer. It is yours alone: collaborators never see it. Press **New conversation** to start fresh; uxdeck asks first.

## Other ways to use the agent

- **Make with AI** on Home: describe an idea under **Describe your idea and make it come to life**, add up to 5 pictures, and press **Make a file**. The agent makes a new file and draws it. Pictures use more credits.
- **Fix my design** and **Show me a better version**, from the coach. See [The UX coach](/guide/coach).
- **Ask AI to fix this** on a comment thread. See [Comments](/guide/comments).
- From your phone. See [uxdeck on your phone](/guide/phone).
- From your own AI tool over MCP. See [Connect an AI tool](/guide/mcp).

## Credits

The agent uses credits: 500 a month on Free (up to 150 a day), and 3,000 a month on Pro, pooled across a team's seats. See [Agent credits](/guide/agent-credits).

## Catches

- **You need to be signed in,** and able to edit the file. Viewers cannot use the agent.
- **A team can turn the agent off** for its files. The tab then says **The agent is off for this team**.
- **Big requests take more steps,** and so more credits. Asking for one screen at a time keeps each request small.
- **Check what it made.** The coach reviews the agent's work, but the design decisions are still yours.
