# The UX coach

> Let the coach read your screens, explain what is off with a reason and a source, and fix the measurable problems in one click.

Source: https://uxdeck.app/guide/coach (checked against uxdeck on 16 October 2026)

The coach reads the screen you are working on and points out what is measurably off: text too faint to read, a button too small to tap, spacing that wanders from your scale. Each finding comes with the reason it matters and a link to the thinking behind it, on uxspot.io or in the WCAG guidelines. Many come with a one-click fix.

It is a second pair of eyes, not a gate. It never blocks you and never says "error". It speaks one finding at a time, and you can quieten it whenever you like.

## Open the coach

Findings live in **Review**, **Findings** on the right. The **Coach** button in the floating toolbar opens it too; when a finding is waiting, a dot shows on the button and on the flagged layer.

Press **How am I doing?** at any time for a fresh read of your selection. **What I check** lists every rule. See [Every coach rule](/guide/coach-rules).

## When it speaks

Choose in the panel, or in **Settings**, **Preferences**, **When the coach speaks**. The choice applies to every file.

- **Hybrid** (the default): the measured checks speak up on their own once you pause, up to four times in a session. Select a frame and it reads that frame a moment later.
- **On ask:** nothing surfaces on its own. Press **How am I doing?** when you want a read.

## Read a finding

A finding shows:

- a dot for how serious it is (a screen reader reads it as Worth stopping for or Worth knowing);
- whether it is **measured** (a real number against a published threshold) or **suggested** (a pattern the coach spotted);
- what it saw, why it matters, and a citation you can open.

When there are several, the panel counts them (**1 of 3 findings**) and the arrows step through them.

## Act on a finding

| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Apply fix** | Fixes this one. <kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>Z</kbd> or **Undo** puts it back. |
| **Fix all N** | Fixes every finding of this kind at once (Pro). |
| **Dismiss** | Stops showing this finding on this layer. This computer remembers it for the file. |
| **Not now** | Sets it aside for a minute. |
| **Mute everywhere** | Silences the rule across the file. A count shows at the top of the panel, with **Unmute**. |

One-click fixes exist for **Text contrast**, **Tap targets**, **Control edges** (when the border already exists), **Text size**, **Line height** and **Spacing scale**. The other rules explain and leave the decision to you.

Muted rules are listed in the file's **Settings**, **General**, **Muted rules**.

## Let the agent fix it

- **Fix my design**, in the floating toolbar, asks the agent to work through everything the coach found on the frame in front of you. It changes the frame itself, keeping your content, and each change is one undo step.
- **Show me a better version**, on a finding, has the agent rework the screen on a copy beside it. The coach checks the copy before you see it, and you **Apply** or **Discard** it. Your screen is not touched until you apply.

Both ask before they start, need you to be signed in, and use your [agent credits](/guide/agent-credits).

## Free and Pro

| What | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Measured rules and one-click fixes | 12 | 12 |
| Judgement rules | None | 4 |
| **Fix all** | No | Yes |
| Read the whole page at once | No | Yes |
| Checklists | No | Yes |

On Free, select one layer or frame to check it; reading the whole page is on Pro.

## Catches

- **Text on a photo or a gradient is not judged.** The coach stays quiet rather than guess at a contrast it cannot measure.
- **Four a session in Hybrid.** After four findings it stops speaking up; asking is unlimited.
- **Viewers do not get the coach.** It is for people who can change the file.
- **The panel speaks French too.** Press **Français** in the panel to switch.
