# Glossary

> The words uxdeck uses for its parts, from auto layout to uxdeck.site, each in a line or two.

Source: https://uxdeck.app/guide/glossary (checked against uxdeck on 16 October 2026)

The words you meet in uxdeck's panels, menus and messages, in alphabetical order. Each one links to the topic that explains it in full.

## A to C

**Agent.** The AI helper in the left rail's **Agent** tab. Ask it to draw screens, flows, components or states, and every change it makes is one undo. See [The agent](/guide/agent).

**Agent credit.** What the agent spends as it works. Free includes 500 a month (up to 150 a day); Pro includes 3,000 a month for each seat, pooled across a team's seats. A turn that fails costs nothing. See [Agent credits](/guide/agent-credits).

**Auto layout.** A frame that places its layers in a row or a column for you, with a gap and padding, and grows or shrinks with its content. See [Auto layout](/guide/auto-layout).

**Block.** A ready-made, working piece of a site: a carousel, an accordion, a notice, a 3D ring and more. You restyle it like any layer, and it works on your published site. See [Add and style Blocks](/guide/blocks).

**Breakpoint.** A linked copy of a page frame at another width, such as Tablet or Phone. Edits on the main frame flow to its breakpoints unless you set a value there. See [Breakpoints](/guide/breakpoints).

**Coach finding.** Something the UX coach noticed on a layer, such as low text contrast or a small tap target, with the reason and often a one-click fix. Findings live in **Review**. See [The UX coach](/guide/coach).

**Component.** A layer you design once and use many times. Change it and every copy follows. See [Components and variants](/guide/components-and-variants).

**Constraint.** How a layer holds its place when its frame is resized: pinned to the left, the right, both, the centre, or scaling with it. See [Constraints](/guide/constraints).

## D to H

**Deck.** uxdeck's word for a file. A new one is called **Untitled deck**, and its options live in **Deck settings** (<kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>,</kbd>). See [Deck settings and file health](/guide/deck-settings).

**Editor.** Someone who can change a file. On a Pro owner's files, each editor takes a seat. See [Seats and editors](/guide/seats).

**Effect.** A picture, text or button effect from the Effects library, such as Glitch, Bulge or Letter roll, that plays on your site. See [The Effects library](/guide/effects-library).

**Fill (colour).** The colour, gradient, picture or video inside a layer. See [Fill, stroke, shadow and blur](/guide/fill-stroke-effects).

**Fill container.** A size mode: the layer takes the space left in its auto layout parent. See [Hug, Fill and min/max sizes](/guide/sizing).

**Flow.** A path through your prototype that starts on a chosen screen. A file can hold several, and Preview lets you pick one. See [Flows](/guide/flows).

**Frame.** The basic container: a screen, a card, a button. Frames can clip what they hold, carry auto layout and become pages of your site. See [Pages, frames and sections](/guide/pages-frames-sections).

**Hug contents.** A size mode: the layer fits what is inside it, so a button grows with its label. See [Hug, Fill and min/max sizes](/guide/sizing).

## I to O

**Instance.** One use of a component. It follows the component, and anything you change on it is kept as an override. See [Components and variants](/guide/components-and-variants).

**Interaction.** What happens when someone clicks, hovers, presses a key or waits on a layer in a prototype: go to a screen, open an overlay, change a variant. See [Interactions](/guide/interactions).

**Layer.** Anything on the canvas: a frame, a shape, a text, a picture. The layers list in the left rail shows them in order. See [Layers](/guide/layers).

**Mode.** One set of values for a variable collection, such as Light and Dark. A frame can choose the mode it uses. Free has 1 mode per collection, Pro 10. See [Variables and modes](/guide/variables).

**Overlay.** A screen that opens on top of the current one in a prototype, such as a menu or a dialog, with its own position and backdrop. See [Overlays](/guide/overlays).

**Override.** A change you made on an instance (its text, a colour, a hidden layer). It stays when the component changes, until you reset it. See [Component properties](/guide/properties-and-swap).

## P to S

**Page.** A tab of the file holding its own canvas. Pages are listed at the top of the left rail's **File** tab. See [Pages, frames and sections](/guide/pages-frames-sections).

**Present.** Playing your prototype in a tab of its own beside the file, full screen and in a device if you like. See [Present in a device](/guide/present).

**Preview.** Trying your prototype from the editor (<kbd>⌥</kbd><kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>↩</kbd>), at phone, tablet or desktop width. See [Link screens and Preview](/guide/link-and-preview).

**Quick actions.** A search box for commands and components (<kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>K</kbd>). See [Quick actions](/guide/quick-actions).

**Review.** The right rail tab with **Findings**, **Checklist**, **Comments** and **Reading**. See [Checklist and Reading](/guide/checklist-reading).

**Seat.** A paid place for an editor on Pro. Viewers never take one. See [Seats and editors](/guide/seats).

**Section.** A labelled area of the canvas that groups frames, such as one flow or one feature (<kbd>⇧</kbd><kbd>S</kbd>). See [Pages, frames and sections](/guide/pages-frames-sections).

**Style.** A saved text style or effect style. Change it and every layer using it follows. See [Text and effect styles](/guide/styles).

## T to Z

**Team.** A shared workspace with its own files, members and roles. Creating one takes Pro; anyone can join. See [Teams](/guide/teams).

**.uxd.** uxdeck's file format, for a local copy you save (<kbd>⇧</kbd><kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>S</kbd>) or open again. Older .uxc files still open. See [.uxd files and uploads](/guide/uxd-files).

**uxdeck.site.** The address your published sites live on, such as your-site.uxdeck.site, unless you connect your own domain. See [Publish a site](/guide/publish).

**Variable.** A named value (a colour, a number, some text, a true or false, a timing or an easing) that fields can follow, so one change reaches every place it is used. See [Variables and modes](/guide/variables).

**Variant.** One version of a component, such as a button that is primary or ghost, idle or hovered. Variants of one component sit together in a set. See [Components and variants](/guide/components-and-variants).

**Version.** A saved point in a file's history you can go back to. uxdeck saves one as you work, and you can name your own. See [Version history](/guide/version-history).

**Viewer.** Someone who can open, comment on and play a file, but not change it. A viewer can ask to edit. See [Viewers and asking to edit](/guide/viewers).

**Workspace.** Where your files belong: your own files, or a team's. Switch between them on Home. See [Home and your files](/guide/home).
