# Share a file

> Invite people to a file by email or with its link, choose whether the link lets them view or edit, and manage who has access.

Every file lives in your uxdeck account, and it stays private until you share it. Sharing is done from **Invite**, in the top bar of the file. You can send an invitation by email, or turn on the file's link and pass it around yourself.

Use email when you know exactly who should come in. Use the link for a wider group, a review with a client, or a quick look from a colleague.

## Invite someone by email

1. Open the file and press **Invite** in the top bar.
2. Type one or more email addresses, separated by commas.
3. Press the send arrow.

They get an email with a link to the file. While they have not opened it yet, they show under **Who has access** with **Invite sent**, and you can press **Send again** if it got lost. Inviting someone turns the link on, because the invitation carries it.

## Turn the link on

Under **Deck link**, a private file reads **Only you**. Press **Turn on** and anyone with the link can edit. To change what the link allows, open the menu under **Deck link**:

| Choice | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Anyone can edit** | Everyone with the link can change the file. |
| **Anyone can view** | Everyone with the link can look, comment and inspect, but not change anything. |
| **Only you** | The link stops working. Everyone who came in through the link leaves the file, and invitations not yet opened are cancelled. People you gave their own level keep it. uxdeck asks before it does this. |
| **Reset link…** | Makes a new link. The old one stops working, and people who joined through it leave the file. |

When the link is on, the copy button next to it puts the link on your clipboard.

## Who has access

The list at the bottom of **Invite** shows everyone in the file and their role:

- **Owner:** the person whose file it is. There is one.
- **Editor:** can change the file.
- **Viewer:** can look, comment and read the design's measurements. See [Viewers and asking to edit](/guide/viewers).
- **Guest:** someone who opened the link without signing in.

A green dot means they are in the file right now (**Here now**).

As the owner, open the menu beside a person to:

- switch them between **Viewer** and **Editor**;
- **Transfer ownership…** to hand the file over. The file then counts toward their plan, and you stay on as an editor. Only they can hand it back;
- **Remove access…** to take them out of the file. If they still have the link they can come back through it, so reset the link to shut them out for good.

There is no separate commenter role: viewers can comment.

## Requests to come in

Someone who opens the file without access sees **You need access** and can press **Request access**. Their request appears in **Invite**, under the email field, headed **Asking to join** (or **Requests** when some ask to edit), and in your [notifications](/guide/notifications). Let them in to view or to edit, or decline. They are not told when you decline, and they can ask again.

## Sharing on Pro

When you are on Pro, someone who is not on Pro takes one of your seats when you make them an editor of your files. uxdeck asks you before it adds the seat. Viewers never take a seat. Read more in [Seats and editors](/guide/seats).

You can also share from **Settings**, **Sharing** in the file's settings, and from the file's menu on your phone.

## Catches

- **Turning the link off is for everyone on the link.** It takes out everyone who came in through it and cancels unopened invitations, at once. People you gave their own level stay.
- **Removing someone is not the same as resetting the link.** Anyone holding a copy of the link can still open the file until you reset it.
- **Comments need the file in your account.** A file has to have reached your account before people can comment on it.
- **Inviting needs a connection.** While you are offline the link and the list cannot change.
