# Voice calls

> Talk with the people in your file, call someone directly, mute, use push to talk and set your microphone and speaker.

Voice lets you talk with the people working in a file, right there in the browser. There is nothing to install and no meeting link: if someone else is in the file, you can talk.

Voice is on Pro, and in a team's files whatever your plan. It needs an account, so guests cannot join.

## Join voice

When someone else is in the file, a **Voice** button appears beside the faces in the top bar. If people are already talking, it reads **Join**. Press it, allow the microphone the first time, and you are in.

## Call someone

Hover over a person's face in the top bar and press **Call {name}**. They hear a ring and see a banner to accept. Once you are in voice, the card offers **Invite to call** instead. Someone ringing you from another file is asked to open that file and join.

## While you are in a call

The in-call bar shows:

- **Mute** and **Unmute**, also <kbd>⇧</kbd><kbd>⌘</kbd><kbd>M</kbd> (<kbd>Ctrl</kbd><kbd>Shift</kbd><kbd>M</kbd> on Windows);
- **Audio settings**, to switch microphone;
- who is in the call and whether each person is **Talking**, **Listening** or **Muted**;
- leave, which asks before you go.

If you start talking while muted, uxdeck asks **Are you trying to talk?**

To make one person louder or quieter, or to turn them off just for you, hover their face and use the volume on their card.

## Voice settings

**Settings**, **Voice**:

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Microphone** | Allow the microphone, choose which one, and **Test your microphone**. |
| **Speaker** | Where you hear the others. Some browsers always use the system speaker. |
| **Push to talk** | Off by default. On, your microphone opens only while you hold a key. |
| **Push-to-talk key** | The key to hold. The default is <kbd>`</kbd>. |
| **Call sounds** | A ringtone when someone calls and a ring while you wait. On by default. |
| **Call notifications** | Tells you about a call when uxdeck is in the background. |

## Limits

- Ten people can talk in one file at once.
- Pro includes 3 hours of voice a day.
- You can be in voice in one tab at a time.
- After ten minutes in a background tab, you leave voice.

## Catches

- **No Voice button?** You need someone else in the file and a connection; guests do not get one. On a plan without voice the button shows a lock and explains which plans have it.
- **Microphone blocked.** If you refused the microphone once, allow it in the browser's site settings.
- **Missed calls** land in the [bell](/guide/notifications).
