What is new in uxdeck

Every release, newest first: what you can do now, what got better and what was fixed. 54 releases and 1143 changes so far.

People you share a file with to view get what they need to read and comment, and can ask you to let them edit.

  • NewViewers have Properties: select any layer to see its size and position, its colours and its type, copy any of them in one click, and export it as PNG or SVG. Comments sit right beside it.
  • ImprovedA shared file opened to view shows its layers and pages, the comments and the properties, without the coach, the agent or the tools for changing the design.
  • ImprovedSomeone who opens your link without an account lands on that one file, with nothing else around it.
  • NewAsk to edit: someone viewing a file you shared can ask you to let them edit it. You see the request in Invite and by email, and one click lets them edit; their open file switches to editing straight away.
  • NewPeople who open your link without an account are invited to sign in, on a computer and on a phone, so the file stays in their Home and they can ask to edit it.
  • FixedA shared link opened on a phone now opens the file, instead of an empty Home.
  • NewRequests in your notifications: when someone asks to open or edit one of your files, it appears under Requests and you can say yes or decline right there. When an owner says yes to you, you are told there too.
  • NewReply from your notifications: hover a comment to read the whole thread beside the list and answer it without opening the file.
  • NewChoose which requests reach you in Settings: all of them, only the ones waiting for your answer, or none.
  • FixedThe settings button in the notifications panel now takes you to your notification settings.
  • FixedMotion keeps your own styles: a layer that is centred, faded or moved by its own settings no longer jumps while it animates, in Preview and in exported sites.
  • FixedExported sites with smooth scrolling: boxes that scroll on their own (a long list, a code block, a carousel) scroll again with a mouse wheel or trackpad.
  • ImprovedMotion in exported sites is kinder to everyone: screen readers read animated text as words rather than letter by letter, a key that starts an animation no longer stops buttons from working, and turning on reduced motion while the page is open takes effect at once, with timed steps still waiting their turn.
  • ImprovedExported sites use less battery: motion stops working in the background when nothing on the page is moving.
  • FixedExported pages no longer flash: text and layers that animate into view stay hidden until their animation starts, instead of showing for a moment first.
  • ImprovedDownloading a site tells you if a font could not be included (when you are offline, for example), so you know to export again, instead of finding out on the live site.
  • NewYou can write to the uxdeck team from the sign-in page, and replying to any uxdeck email now reaches a person.
  • NewSupport and Security pages: how to get help, and how to report a security problem.
  • NewThe Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are published, and linked from the sign-in page.
  • Fixeduxdeck no longer opens on a blank page after an update, in the browser or in the installed app: it loads the new version by itself.
  • ImprovedPinned sections on exported sites stay perfectly still on iPhone, even when you scroll fast, instead of trailing behind and catching up.
  • ImprovedCalls sound new: a proper ringtone when someone calls you, a waiting tone while you call someone, a sound when you join, and another when you hang up.
  • ImprovedExported code writes motion the way the Scrollwork docs do: each moving element carries its own motion, so a developer can read it and change it right there, with the Scrollwork guide in hand.
  • FixedThe coach keeps the finding you are working on: changing your design in answer to it no longer swaps it out for other findings, so asking the agent for its version stays one click away.
  • FixedMenus keep your keyboard place while collaborators move around the file, instead of jumping back to the button that opened them.
  • FixedWhile you call someone, the voice bar shows who you are calling.
  • FixedA confirmation opened with a double-click stays open until you answer it.

The plans, for real

Free, Pro and Team are set out in Settings, and your plan is what uxdeck goes by.

  • NewInvite lists who has access with each person’s level: as the owner, make someone a Viewer or an Editor, or remove them, and it applies right away, even in the tab they have open. You see each person’s email under their name; everyone else sees who is the owner, an editor, a viewer or a guest.
  • ImprovedComment pins show the person who started the thread, their picture or their initial filling the pin, with the number of comments on a small badge once someone has replied.
  • ImprovedMentioning someone with @ shows their face and, under their name, their email address when you own the file or were invited to it by name; otherwise whether they are here now.
  • FixedA file keeps its custom thumbnail, its language and its design tokens after you sign out and back in, or come back to it later. They could be lost when the file was reopened.
  • NewResizing a frame from its right or bottom edge snaps to what is inside it, so fitting a frame to its image is one drag.
  • NewSnap to pixel grid in the View menu (Shift Cmd ’): moves and resizes land on whole pixels. Turn it off to place things between pixels.
  • ImprovedLayout grids snap by their rows and square grids too, not only their columns.
  • ImprovedCopies are numbered: pasting or duplicating "Vector" gives "Vector 1", then "Vector 2", and "Frame 2" gives "Frame 3", whichever way you copy. A text layer keeps showing its words.
  • ImprovedA file with a custom thumbnail shows it on Home as a full poster, with a soft shade so the star and the owner stay easy to see.
  • FixedChrome no longer offers to save what you type in uxdeck (a width, a name, a search) to your Google account as if it were personal details.
  • ImprovedExport on the Free plan: PNG and SVG of the page are right there, and a short note says what Pro adds, with the plans one click away.
  • FixedText fields no longer draw an extra line inside them when you click in; the field itself shows it is active.
  • FixedDouble-clicking a rectangle, ellipse, polygon or star to edit its points no longer turns it into a vector straight away: it stays a shape until you move a point, and one undo makes it a shape again. Inside an auto layout frame, the points now sit on the shape instead of appearing somewhere else on the canvas.
  • NewSet as thumbnail: right-click a screen and choose Set as thumbnail to make it the picture Home shows for the file. Everyone in a shared file sees the same one, and Restore default thumbnail goes back to the whole page.
  • NewSettings > Plans shows the plan you are on and what each plan includes. Free keeps three files of your own, the coach’s eight measured rules, the reading library, practice briefs and grades, PNG and SVG export, and unlimited viewers, who can comment. Practice briefs never count as one of your files.
  • NewAgent credits are now monthly: 500 on Free (at most 150 a day), 3,000 on Pro, pooled across a team’s seats. The AI balance in the deck menu, under the agent’s box and in Settings > Usage says what is left this month, and on Free what is left today.
  • NewPro opens the rest: unlimited files, HTML, Tailwind and site export, all twelve coach rules, Fix all and whole-page passes, the Checklist tab, voice in shared files, 10 GB of images and 90 days of versions. Anything Free does not include says so where it is, with the plans a press away.
  • NewThe Code section in the inspector shows the first lines of your own design as HTML on Free, blurred, so you can see it is real code before choosing Pro. CSS for a layer stays free.
  • ImprovedNothing is charged yet. Tell us which plan you would choose with Notify me; checkout comes next.
  • ImprovedOpening a file you can only view: the editing tools step aside, the panels say what you can do, and the agent and the coach’s fixes wait until you have edit access. You can still comment, close your own comment threads, and export pictures.

Pictures you can tune

Images in the Fill section say Image, and open to their scale and adjustments.

  • NewAsk for access: when a link no longer opens a file, ask the owner from the file itself. The owner lets you in as a viewer or an editor from Invite, and you get an email when they do.
  • NewPeople you let in by name keep their access when you turn the link off or reset it. Invite lists them, and you can remove anyone there.
  • NewDelete your account from Settings. We email you a link to confirm, and nothing is deleted until you confirm in uxdeck.
  • ImprovedEmails about mentions and comments now show a picture of where the comment was left, with a pin on the spot: the frame it is on, or the part of the page around it.
  • NewReplies: when someone answers in a comment thread you wrote in, you hear about it in the bell and by email, even if you chose mentions and replies only.
  • NewWhen a comment thread you wrote in is resolved, you hear about it.
  • FixedThe button in a comment email opens the file on that comment.
  • FixedOpening one of your own files from a shared link takes you to the file instead of back to Home.
  • ImprovedA cleaner sign-in page, with the new uxdeck mark: the ways in, one after the other, and nothing else to read.
  • Newuxdeck has its new mark: in the app, on its tab in your browser, as the icon when you install it, and on the preview when you share a link. A deck with nothing on it yet shows the mark in its place on Home.
  • ImprovedThe coach in the Review tab now looks like the rest of uxdeck, in light and dark, and its text is larger and easier to read. When there is nothing to report it shows what it does, a screen being read, and a link at the foot credits uxspot.io, where the coach comes from.
  • ImprovedThe downloaded site works with a keyboard and a screen reader: a layer you click is a real link or button that Tab reaches and Enter presses, the page reads top to bottom as designed, and each screen is the page’s main content.
  • NewChoose the language a deck is written in, in Deck settings: the downloaded site tells screen readers which voice to use.
  • NewFour more things the coach checks: images with no description, clickable layers with nothing to read out, shortcuts on a single key, and a deck with no language set.
  • FixedItalic text keeps its real italic in the downloaded site, and the fonts of every page travel with it.
  • ImprovedThe downloaded site is just the site: the design audit is no longer in the folder or in the pages. The coach stays in uxdeck, where you design.
  • FixedThe downloaded site fills the window: each screen is as wide as the browser it opens in, sections set to Fill or pinned to both sides stretch with it, Fixed and Hug keep their size, and nothing scrolls sideways. The page’s background carries on below the design.
  • NewPrototype animations: a link can change the screen with Instant, Dissolve, Match layers, Move in, Move out, Push, Slide in or Slide out, in the direction, curve and duration you choose. Match layers moves and resizes the layers both screens share by name.
  • NewOverlays: Open overlay shows a frame over the screen, centred or at an edge, with a dim behind it that closes it on click if you like. Swap overlay and Close overlay work from buttons inside it.
  • NewMore triggers: On drag, Key/Gamepad (press the key to set it), Mouse enter, Mouse leave, Mouse down, Mouse up and After delay, alongside click, hover and press. The standard easing curves are there too.
  • ImprovedLinking in the Prototype tab is easier: point at any side of the selected layer and a ring appears there; drag it onto a frame and the line snaps to that frame, landing where the link will be drawn.
  • NewHold Shift while dragging to keep a layer on a straight line, across or down. With Alt as well, it is the copy that slides along the line and the original stays put.
  • FixedUndo now covers everything you change in the side panels: auto layout, sizing, corners, checkboxes, menus, and scroll motion in the Prototype tab. Each change is one step, ⌘Z works wherever you last clicked, and it never skips a step or undoes nothing.
  • FixedAuto layout frames can hug their content again, including a frame inside another auto layout frame: choose Hug for its width or height.
  • ImprovedA cleaner light theme: white panels and toolbars around a lighter canvas.
  • NewFont size styles are now text styles: each one holds a font, a weight, a line height and a letter spacing along with its size, and a text using it takes them all. A part the style leaves on Auto goes back to its default on every text that uses it. A generated type scale makes variables for every step: size, line height, letter spacing and weight.
  • NewRadius styles can round each corner differently: open a radius style’s corners and set each one.
  • ImprovedStyles are quicker to make and edit: each kind has its own +, the kinds you have not used yet are one click away underneath, and clicking a colour style’s swatch opens the colour picker.
  • NewMeasure distances: select a layer, hold Alt (Option on a Mac) and point at another layer to see how far apart they are. Point at the frame around it to see its distance to each edge.
  • NewRight-click a deck’s tab for the same menu as its name in the top bar: rename, duplicate, move to a folder, versions, settings and more.
  • NewPresent in full screen: the button beside Done in Preview, or press F. Press it again, press F or Escape to come back.
  • FixedScroll motion keeps up while you work: the page stays scrolled where you left it when you move a layer, and the Prototype tab’s numbers follow the move. The scroll bar beside the frame no longer keeps following your pointer after you let go, and dragging a number or resizing a side panel no longer leaves the resize cursor stuck, with clicks and scrolling on the canvas blocked until you pressed again.
  • ImprovedPreview rests when nothing moves: a page with hundreds of animated layers no longer keeps your computer busy while you look at it, even when the connection is down.
  • FixedPreview in its own tab stays in step with the canvas: every edit shows up by itself, the frame’s fill shows instead of white, R brings it up to date, and closing it no longer asks for confirmation. The deck you are editing also no longer drops its connection when a Preview tab opens.
  • NewGuides. With the rulers on, drag from the top or side ruler onto the canvas to place a guide. Drop it on a frame and it moves with the frame. Drag a guide to move it, hold Alt to copy it, and drag it back onto a ruler, press Delete or right-click it to remove it. Layers snap to guides, and guides are saved with your deck.
  • FixedThe rulers line up with the canvas again: they had drifted above it by the height of the top bar.
  • ImprovedYour account menu shows how you sign in, under your email: Google, GitHub, or the email link.
  • ImprovedComments look and feel like a note: press C and the Comments list opens beside the canvas, and a new comment is a roomy card next to your picture on the spot you clicked. If the connection drops while you write, the card says so, keeps your words, and lets you send as soon as it is back.
  • ImprovedDeck settings and account settings are two places now. From a deck, Settings is about that deck: its name and folder, its versions, the coach rules muted in it, sharing and export. Your profile, preferences, voice, usage and plan are in Account settings, from the main menu, the link at the foot of Settings, or Home.
  • ImprovedSharing in Settings works like Invite: invite by email, choose what the deck link allows, copy or reset it, and see who is here.
  • NewFolders. Sort your decks into folders from Home: make one with + under Folders, then drag a deck onto it or use Move to folder in its menu. In a deck, the folder beside its name opens its Name and Folder, so you can rename it or move it without leaving. Folders live in your account, so they are the same on every device, and deleting one never deletes a deck: its decks go back to Unsorted.
  • ImprovedShare is now Invite, and it opens right under its button: type an email to invite someone, choose what the project link allows, copy it, and see who is in the file.
  • ImprovedExport is for the web: the site and its code. Pictures of what you selected are in the right-click menu and Quick actions.
  • NewMotion mode from the frame. A frame with scroll motion shows a Motion badge on its bar, with how many layers move. Press it to open the Prototype tab on that frame, with its scroll rail and every motion’s values, and press Exit motion to go back to Design.
  • ImprovedA cleaner tab bar: Home and your notifications sit together at the left as icons, and your open files show by name.
  • ImprovedCursor chat is easier to read: larger text, your own line in uxdeck’s colour, and a bubble that grows with what you type. The canvas pointer is sharper too, with a dark arrow that stands out on any design.
  • ImprovedHome shows your files as large previews, with the name and when it was last edited underneath, and who owns a file in the corner of its preview. An empty file shows the uxdeck mark. On a tablet and a phone they sit two to a row.
  • ImprovedQuick actions knows what you selected. A frame offers Preview, auto layout, a dark version, a loading state, missing breakpoints, a component and code export; an image, replacing it and how it fills its box; a text, editing, case and a rewrite by the agent; a button, its states; a component, a new instance; an instance, its main component, a reset or a detach; several layers, framing, auto layout, aligning and spacing them.
  • NewQuick actions. Press Cmd and K, or the command button in the bottom toolbar, and type: any command from the menus, with its shortcut, any layer or page by name, or a question for the agent. Opened empty, it suggests what you can do with the selection and lists what you ran last.
  • FixedSettings says where your file really lives: in your account, private until you share it. Deleting a file you own says plainly that it is deleted for everyone you shared it with, and the top bar no longer calls a private file Shared while you are offline.
  • NewIgnore auto layout. A layer inside an auto layout frame can step out of the flow while staying in the frame: turn it on beside Rotation in the Layout section, and the layer stays where it is, the others close the gap, and you can place it and pin it with constraints like any free layer. Hold Ctrl while dropping a layer into an auto layout frame to do the same. The layers list marks it with the same icon.
  • ImprovedYour files are decks now. A new file starts as Untitled deck, and the main menu offers Back to Deck when you are in Settings.
  • FixedThe zoom menu in the bottom toolbar opens right above the zoom button instead of floating away from it.
  • FixedPreview and presenting tabs show the frame as it is on the canvas: its background, and its auto layout spacing and alignment, instead of every layer piled in the top left corner. Changes to the frame show up there as you make them.
  • ImprovedAn image fill or an image layer shows as Image in the Fill section, with its thumbnail and opacity, instead of a colour code.
  • NewPlace several images at once. Choose Image from the + menu, or press Shift, Cmd and K, and pick as many pictures as you like: the next one follows your cursor with a count of how many are left. Click to place it at its own size, drag to set its size, or click a shape to fill it with the picture. Place all puts the rest down together, and Escape stops.
  • ImprovedDrawing an image box asks for its picture as soon as you let go, and an image box still waiting for one offers Choose image in the Fill section.
  • FixedSmall pictures in files kept in your account no longer disappear after they are added.
  • NewAdd a colour to a picture. The + in the Fill section stacks a colour with the image, to tint or darken it. Each has its own opacity, show and remove, and dragging one over the other decides which sits on top on the canvas.
  • NewImage settings. Open an image in the Fill section to choose how it fills its layer (Fill, Fit or Tile), replace it, and adjust its exposure, contrast, saturation, temperature and tint while watching a preview. The canvas and the code export both show the result, and the layers inside a frame keep their own colours.

Your files follow you

Every file you make belongs to your account from the moment it exists, and so do your archive and your trash.

  • FixedA file made while signed in is in your account straight away, not only after it had been opened on a good connection. Sign in on any device and it is there.
  • FixedNothing you made can be lost by logging out: a file is only let go once your account holds it.
  • FixedYour files are yours alone. Someone signing in with another account on the same browser sees their own files, never yours.
  • FixedA local copy opens with its pictures. A .uxc saved from a file with pictures in it came back with empty boxes; the pictures now travel inside the file and come back wherever it is opened, even with no connection.
  • FixedRenaming a file from Home works and sticks. Choosing Rename on a file card kept closing the name field before you could type; it stays open now, and the new name reaches your account and every other device, so opening the file no longer brings the old name back.
  • NewThe archive and the trash are part of your account. A file you archive or trash on one device is archived or trashed on every other, and both are still there after you log out and back in.
  • FixedThe Checklist, Comments and Reading views in Review scroll again when they are longer than the panel.
  • ImprovedSee motion as you design it. Drag the scroll bar beside a frame and the Appear on scroll, While scrolling and Pin sections show where the page is against each motion and what the layer is doing at that moment: how far it has moved, how faded, scaled or turned.
  • FixedThe marks beside a frame for held layers stay put while you scrub the page, instead of sliding along with the layer they describe.
  • ImprovedMessages read better. Away from the canvas they appear near the bottom of the screen, a longer message gets a shape that fits it, and Open on your computer shows it is working while it sends.
  • ImprovedType a value with its unit and the field follows. Enter -1px in letter spacing, 1.5rem in font size or 1.5em in line height, and the field switches to that unit and keeps your number.
  • NewOpen uxdeck on your computer from your phone. Turn on Open from your phone once on your computer, from Home or Settings, and the button on your phone sends it a notification that brings you straight to uxdeck there.
  • ImprovedAlignment is back in plain sight. The six align buttons sit beside the Layout title, and the menu next to them holds distributing and resizing to fill or to fit.
  • ImprovedHide the interface to see only your design. The button now sits beside the layers search, and it hides the side panels, the top bar and the file tabs together; a small pill in the corner, or Cmd and backslash, brings them back.
  • NewSelect several layers in the layers list. Hold Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) and click to add or remove a layer, hold Shift and click to select every layer between two, or both to add a run to what you have.
  • FixedDragging a layer to the top of the layers list brings it to the front. Dropping it just above the first layer used to leave it where it was; now it lands in front of everything, and dropping below the last layer sends it to the back.
  • NewYour agent credits are always in view. See what is left today under the agent's message box, in the Deck menu under AI balance, and in Settings under Usage, all showing the same number, with when it resets.
  • NewLayers with motion are marked in the layers list. A small motion mark sits beside the name of any layer that appears on scroll, moves with scroll, stays pinned or animates on interaction, and hovering it says which.
  • ImprovedArchived files look like every other file. Their options live in the file menu, where you can open, restore, rename, duplicate or trash them, and an archived file opens with a click like any other.
  • NewLock and hide layers from the layers list. Hover a layer to see its lock and eye; a locked or hidden layer keeps showing them, so you can tell at a glance.
  • ImprovedKeyboard shortcuts have a new home, in the shortcuts panel and in Settings. Browse them by category with every key shown on its own, search across all of them, and see which ones you already use picked out, with a count of how many you have learned.
  • ImprovedCopies of numbered layers count on. Duplicate a frame called 1 or Frame 2, with the shortcut, the menu or an Alt-drag on the canvas or in the layers list, and the copy is named with the next free number instead of the same name again.
  • Newuxdeck on your phone. Signed in on a phone you now get Home with your files two to a row, Recents, All files, Archive and Trash a tap away, and any file opens on its canvas to look at: pan with a finger, pinch to zoom, switch pages from the menu. Designing stays on tablets and computers; the phone is for looking and checking in.
  • NewSign-in methods, under Settings and Profile. Connect Google and GitHub to the account you are in, on any address, so whichever button you press at the door opens the same files. Disconnect one whenever you like; a link sent to your address always gets you in.
  • FixedSigning in on a file no longer shows Offline and then Signed out when you are in fact signed in, and the agent answers instead of asking you to sign in.

A front door of its own

uxdeck now opens on its own sign-in page, on any screen, in your theme.

  • FixedA file no longer sits behind a loading screen when the server cannot be reached. It opens straight away and catches up with your account when the connection comes back.
  • FixedThe trash keeps what you put in it. A file you deleted could vanish from the trash for good as soon as you made or renamed another one, which made Restore a promise uxdeck did not always keep.
  • ImprovedLayout is one section again. A frame shows its position and size, then either Add flex or the flex controls under their own heading, then Clip content. Nothing is repeated between two sections any more.
  • ImprovedThe faces in the top bar are the other people in the file. Your own face lives at the end of the tab bar and nowhere else.
  • ImprovedVoice appears once somebody else is in the file with you, not before.
  • ImprovedIn a call, your face shows whether you are talking or muted, Leave is one press away, and a chevron opens the list of everyone in the call with the same marks on their faces.
  • ImprovedThe buttons at the top right of a file are one height and one type size.
  • ImprovedThe Layout and Flex sections in the right rail are readable again. Position, size and the transform buttons sit on two tidy rows, the headings that pushed everything apart are gone, and each control carries its own icon.
  • ImprovedFrame sizes moved behind the Layout title. Press the chevron next to Layout to pick a phone, tablet, desktop or paper size, or keep a custom one; the Custom size row is gone.
  • ImprovedCorner radius is clearer: one field with its corner mark, and a maximize button that opens Corner radius details with the four corners drawn as corners rather than labelled TL, TR, BR and BL.
  • ImprovedThe Layout and Flex controls sit on one strict three-column grid, so every row lines up with the row above it and the rail scans at a glance.
  • NewCorners can be rounded one at a time. Press the corner button in the Radius section for four fields, top-left to bottom-left; set them all the same and it folds back to one number. The canvas, HTML, Tailwind and SVG export all follow.
  • ImprovedCorner radius has a slider now, so you can find a value by eye and still type an exact one.
  • ImprovedFlex no longer repeats the width and height that Layout already shows, and wrap is its own switch rather than a third direction.
  • ImprovedAccessibility and Generate fold away behind a plus like every other section, and stay open once you open them.
  • ImprovedSettings sorts itself out. Voice now has Permissions, then Devices with your microphone and speaker together, then how it behaves while you talk. None of it is hidden when you open Settings from Home, because a microphone belongs to your browser and not to one file.
  • FixedChoosing which comments reach you is one control instead of three buttons reading Choose, it says what it changed, and the email switch no longer turns itself off again when comments are set to None.
  • ImprovedThe settings sidebar works from the keyboard: arrows move between tabs and the page follows.
  • ImprovedWith nothing selected, the Design tab is Page, Styles and Export, and Present moved to the Prototype tab where its device and backdrop belong: one row, the mockup and the colour, with a play in its title. The explanations under Page and Present are gone.
  • NewScrollwork gets a scroll rail. In the Prototype tab, a thin rail beside a scrolling frame is the whole page: the screen is its thumb, which you drag to see the page scrolled, and every motion is a knot at the scroll position where it starts. Select a layer and its range lights beside the rail; a hold is two knots joined, and a layer the hold drives sits inside it. Motions that start in the same place share one knot with a count; press it again to move through them. The dashed lines and numbered badges that used to cross the design are gone.
  • FixedPresenting a file that lives in your account opens a real presentation. The tab used to lose its way and show the editor instead.
  • FixedPresent opens one tab and leaves the editor alone. Pressing Present used to open the presenting tab and put the editor into Present as well, so Done in one tab left the other still presenting.
  • ImprovedGenerate is a list to pick from rather than a stack of buttons. Each thing the canvas can make, the other theme, a loading state, the accessibility notes or a control's states, is a row with its own icon, a line saying what comes out, and its shortcut.
  • FixedYour Google or GitHub picture now shows on your face everywhere in uxdeck, including for accounts that were made by email link first. Changing your name in Settings still sticks: signing in again does not undo it.
  • ImprovedSettings is reachable from Home, under Trash. Your account, notifications, voice and plan no longer sit behind opening a file first.
  • ImprovedChoose your theme from your account menu, where it belongs, instead of a switch in the sidebar. Switching no longer announces itself: the window changes, which is the point.
  • ImprovedLogging out is one press now, with nothing to confirm.
  • ImprovedRequest a feature is a single box and a send button. No form to fill in.
  • ImprovedThe cards in Home’s sidebar are paged with dots again, and Practice can be dismissed like the agents card.
  • NewCursor chat. Press / in a shared file and type beside your own cursor: everyone in the file reads it as you write. It is for the quick remark that does not deserve a comment, so nothing is kept, and the line disappears a few seconds after you stop typing. You can also start it from the canvas menu.
  • NewHome shows who is in a file. The faces of the people working in a project appear on its card, so you can see where everyone is before you open anything.
  • NewInvite people by email. Type addresses into the Share panel and everyone gets the link in their inbox, with the name of the file and who sent it. They can open it with or without an account.
  • NewYour projects live in your account. A file you make is kept for you the moment it exists, so signing in on another computer brings your work with you, wherever you started it.
  • ImprovedSharing is now its own decision. A project is yours alone until you press Share and turn the link on, and nobody can open it before that. Before, putting a file somewhere safe and handing out an edit link to anyone who had it were the same button.
  • ImprovedThe Share panel says which it is: a project only you can open offers to turn the link on, and once it is on you get the link, the people in the file and the choice between view and edit. The link can go off again whenever you like.
  • ImprovedComments no longer ask you to share a file first. You can leave notes on a project only you can open, and they are waiting in the thread for whoever you share it with later.
  • ImprovedLogging out clears your projects from that browser and leaves them in your account, which matters on a computer you share. They come back when you sign in again, anywhere.
  • Improveduxdeck opens on a sign-in page rather than dropping you into the editor. Google and GitHub are the two ways in, and the first time you press one your account is made, so there is no separate sign-up to go and find.
  • ImprovedThe sign-in page is dark like the rest of uxdeck, and follows you to the light theme if that is the one you keep.
  • NewYou can make your account on a phone. Designing still wants a tablet or a computer, and uxdeck says so once you are in, but a link you open on the way somewhere no longer stops you at the door.
  • FixedSigning in by email link no longer leaves you nameless. Your account is made with a name taken from your address, and collaborators see that rather than "Guest". Signing in with Google or GitHub keeps the name they already have.
  • NewChange the name people see on your comments, in Settings under Profile.
  • NewNotifications. A bell next to your face collects comments and mentions on your files, wherever you are in uxdeck. Hover one to read the comment without leaving the page, press it to open the file, and mark the lot as read in one go.
  • Newuxdeck can email you as well. A mention arrives within a few minutes; ordinary comments come as one email per file every half hour, so a busy thread is one message rather than twenty. Choose all comments, mentions only, or none, in Settings under Profile.
  • FixedYour face now sits at the end of the tab bar wherever you are, on Home as well as inside a file, and pressing it holds your account, the theme and the way out. Signing out was previously only reachable from inside an open file, which is to say not reachable at all if you had none.
  • ImprovedFaces are squircles rather than circles, everywhere they appear: the tab bar, comments, the people in a shared file and your account.
  • ImprovedAuto layout: the alignment grid now runs the same way as the direction above it, so a horizontal layout reads horizontally and a vertical one reads vertically.
  • ImprovedEmpty screens show a sketch of what would be there instead of an icon and a sentence: Home, the trash, the archive, a search that found nothing, and the screen after something goes wrong all share it.
  • ImprovedThe product is called uxdeck everywhere now: the browser tab, the sidebar, the app you install to your home screen, the link preview when you share it, and the name the design agent knows itself by.
  • NewSign in with your email address. Type it in, we send you a link, and pressing it puts you straight in. No password to make up and no password to forget, and the same field makes your account the first time.
  • ImprovedA sign-in link that has already been used, or that sat too long, now says so when it brings you back instead of dropping you on the sign-in page with no explanation.
  • ImprovedEach sign-in email carries its own short code in the subject, so asking for a second link does not bury it under the first one in your inbox. If you asked twice, use the newest.
  • ImprovedAn export carries uxdeck too. The audit page that ships beside your screens wears the mark, and the proof line stamped into the code reads uxdeck-checked. Every finding still links to the page on uxspot.io it came from.

Your file keeps its own history, going back is one step you can undo, and you can now talk to the people in a shared file.

  • NewVoice. In a shared file, press Voice in the top bar and talk to everyone else in it. Their faces glow while they speak, so you always know who is talking.
  • NewCall someone. Hover a face in the top bar and press Call: they hear a ring, see who is calling, and one press puts them in voice with you.
  • NewWhen a call is on and you are not in it, the top bar offers Join.
  • NewFollow someone. Hover a face in the top bar and press Follow to ride along with what they are looking at: the canvas moves with them and wears their colour while it does. Touch the canvas and you have the wheel back.
  • NewFollowing works between different sized windows: you are shown the same part of the design, fitted to your own screen, not a cropped copy of theirs.
  • NewCall sounds: a ringtone, a ring while you wait, and a short note when you connect or hang up. Turn them off in Settings.
  • NewA call reaches you across every project you have open, not only the one on screen. The banner says which project it is in, and answering opens it and puts you in the call.
  • ImprovedSomeone already in a call shows as in voice and cannot be rung. Their card now offers to join them instead of leaving you at a dead end.
  • FixedText on the canvas is sharp again at every zoom. It was being drawn once and then stretched, which showed on every font, including the one that ships with the canvas.
  • FixedA two finger swipe on a trackpad no longer sends the browser back a page and takes you out of your file. Sideways swipes belong to the canvas now.
  • ImprovedA new file opens empty. The phone frame that used to be there decided for you; the frame presets in the right panel are a press away when you know what you are designing for.
  • ImprovedThe first frame you draw in a new file sits at 0, 0, so everything you measure afterwards is measured from something. The frame stays where you drew it on screen.
  • ImprovedComment mode has its own cursor, a pin whose point is where the comment will land.
  • FixedPictures in a shared file are stored without the address they were uploaded from, so the product can change its name or move house without anybody’s documents having to be rewritten.
  • Improveduxdeck asks you to sign in before it opens. Your files then live with your account rather than with one browser, so they are there on the next machine you sit at. A link someone shares with you still opens without an account, and so does a prototype.
  • NewYour picture sits at the end of the top bar. It says which account you are on, and holds Your account and Sign out.
  • ImprovedSigning in has been rebuilt around Google and GitHub, and your account now lives in the same place as your files. Signing in by email link comes back once there is an inbox to send it from.
  • NewDeleting a file puts it in the trash instead of destroying it. Trash sits in the Home sidebar; a file waits there until you restore it or delete it for good, and nothing is ever thrown away on a timer.
  • ImprovedThe agent can be switched off on the server in one command, and Settings says so instead of letting you find out one failed request at a time.
  • FixedThe font list no longer locks up the app while it opens. Only the fonts you can see are drawn, and the check for newly installed ones happens after the list is on screen instead of before it.
  • ImprovedThe font search is ready to type in the moment the list opens.
  • FixedThe inspector shows a layer by the same name the layers list shows, so a text layer no longer reads as simply "Text" when you select it.
  • ImprovedRenaming a layer starts from the name you can see, instead of the one underneath it.
  • ImprovedAuto layout: double-click the alignment grid to make children fill the other axis, and the grid shows it. The stray Stretch button is gone.
  • ImprovedThe layers list keeps the ordinary pointer over a layer icon, instead of swapping in a magnifier.
  • FixedThe browser is asked to leave the canvas alone: no autofill offering to save a layer width, no spellcheck underlining your headings.
  • ImprovedComments show people as faces. Once sign-in carries a photo it is the photo; until then it is their initial in their colour, and a thread two people are talking in shows both of them on its pin.
  • ImprovedPresent opens in its own tab. The editor stays where it is, so you can design on one screen and watch it on the other, and what you are watching updates as you work with nothing to press.
  • NewPresent shows who else has the file open and an Invite button, and a scaling menu: actual size, responsive, fit width, fit width and height, fill screen.
  • NewA live badge sits in the bottom right of Present, and R refreshes if you ever doubt it.
  • ImprovedClicking a comment in the list now zooms to what it is about and marks it for a moment, instead of sliding the canvas to a pin at whatever zoom you happened to be on. A comment still attached to a layer frames that layer and outlines it.
  • ImprovedThe comments list has been rebuilt. Each thread carries its number, the people talking in it and how many replies it has, and one button holds the sorting and filters: by date or unread, resolved shown or hidden, only your threads, only this page, only the ones naming you.
  • NewComments you have not read stand out, and the list can be sorted to put them first. Opening a thread reads it, and a thread can be marked unread again from its row. What you have read is remembered in this browser.
  • NewResolve a thread straight from the list, without opening it.
  • FixedEscape now closes a menu opened with the mouse. It only worked from the keyboard before.
  • ImprovedA reply box is one line until you write in it, and opening a thread to read it no longer puts the cursor in the reply box.
  • NewComments take emoji and pictures. There is a picker for emoji, an at sign button for naming someone, and you can attach up to five pictures to a comment.
  • ImprovedSharing has been redesigned. One page shows who has access and gets you the link in a press; what the link allows lives behind it, so the common thing is quick and the rules are somewhere you go on purpose.
  • NewSee your export before you download it. The Export section in the right panel now has a scale, a format and a preview of the selected frame, drawn from the export itself, so anything that does not survive the export is visible first.
  • NewMention someone in a comment. Type an at sign and pick a name: they are marked in the comment, and the thread shows up under Mentions you. People who have written in the file can be named even when they are not here.
  • NewEvery comment in one list, under Review in the right panel. Filter to unresolved or to the ones that name you, search the text, and press a row to jump to it on the canvas, switching page if it lives on another one.
  • NewShare a link for looking, not editing. A link can now be view only: people can open the file, read it and comment on it, but nothing can be changed. Choose it in the share sheet.
  • NewA shared link now just opens. Anyone you send one to can look at the file and edit it without making an account first; signing in is there when they want files of their own.
  • ImprovedPeople who arrive through a link are shown as guests, so you can always tell who has an account and who typed a name.
  • NewInstall the canvas as an app. It opens in its own window with no browser chrome, gets an icon on your dock or home screen, and already worked offline. On a tablet, add it from the browser’s share menu; on a computer, Install as an app is in the main menu.
  • ImprovedPasting from Figma no longer leaves a layer full of gibberish on your canvas. Layers copied in Figma cannot be pasted here, so the canvas now says so. To bring a design over, open its .fig file on Home; Copy as SVG brings shapes only, not text, components or auto layout.
  • NewLayers snap into line. Drag one near another and it pulls flush with its edges or centre, with a line showing you why.
  • NewLaying out a row is easier: drag a card towards the others and the canvas offers the same gap they already use, so the rhythm stays even without measuring anything.
  • NewA snapped gap prefers your file’s own spacing tokens and tells you which one it used, so spacing stays part of your design system rather than a number you happened to land on.
  • NewHold Cmd while dragging to ignore snapping for that one move, or turn it off entirely with Shift+S and from the View menu.
  • FixedResting a palm on a tablet while dragging no longer undoes your previous piece of work, and no longer turns what you were doing into a zoom. Pinching now needs both fingers to actually move, so a palm sitting still is just a palm sitting still.
  • NewChoose your microphone. In Settings, or right from the call bar with the arrow beside Mute, and the canvas remembers your choice.
  • NewTest your microphone before a call. Press Test in Settings and the bars move if it is picking you up. Nothing is opened until you press it.
  • NewChoose which speaker voice plays through, where the browser allows it.
  • ImprovedA microphone that is unplugged or stops working mid-call is swapped for the next one, and you are told which one you are on now, rather than being dropped from voice.
  • FixedA brief network drop no longer leaves you in a call nobody can hear. Voice now tells the room you are still there when the connection comes back, instead of leaving everyone looking at a face that stopped talking.
  • FixedTalking while muted now shows: your own face changes colour and the call bar says so, rather than letting you finish a sentence nobody heard.
  • FixedHolding the push-to-talk key quickly no longer leaves the others seeing the wrong mute state.
  • FixedVoice that cannot connect now gives up and says so instead of leaving you on a spinner, and being out of minutes or in a full room says exactly that.
  • ImprovedOne call at a time across your open projects: joining voice in a second project tells you where you already are rather than opening a second microphone.
  • ImprovedWith push to talk on, the microphone button now turns it off and opens your microphone, instead of being unusable mid-call.
  • ImprovedA call you are being offered can be answered from the keyboard, and Escape declines it.
  • NewVoice has its own page in Settings, with a Permissions block at the top. It tells you whether your browser is letting the canvas use your microphone and show notifications, and gives you both without waiting for a call to go wrong.
  • NewA call now reaches your desktop when the canvas is behind another app, so you can hear someone out without keeping the window in front. The canvas asks once, the first time you use voice, and you can turn it off in Settings.
  • NewA call you miss waits for you. If nobody answers while you are away, the top bar keeps a quiet note of who called until you dismiss it, rather than a message that disappears before you come back.
  • ImprovedThe voice controls are now one small bar with a level meter that moves only when someone is talking.
  • NewMute yourself with one press, and see at a glance who else is muted.
  • NewPush to talk, if you would rather your microphone opened only while you hold a key. Turn it on in Settings and choose the key.
  • NewThree hours of voice a day each, and you leave voice automatically if you leave the tab in the background for ten minutes.
  • NewVersion history. Your file quietly keeps a snapshot every ten minutes while you work, so there is always something to go back to. Open it from the file menu.
  • NewSave a version whenever a file is at a point worth keeping, and give it a name. Named versions are never tidied away, however old they get.
  • NewPicking a version shows it beside your file as it is now, both drawn for real, so you can see what changed before you decide.
  • NewRestore puts your file back to that version in one step, and one undo brings back everything you had. You can also restore a version as a separate copy on Home, leaving the file you are in untouched.
  • NewVersions: snapshots of your file you can go back to, even with no connection. Deleting a file takes its history with it.

Ask for a screen or a change and watch it work, with the coach checking every step.

  • NewThe agent is live. Describe a screen or a change in the Agent tab and it designs it in your file: it reads the frame first, writes real layers, and the coach checks everything it draws. If it introduces a problem, it fixes it before handing the screen back.
  • ImprovedIts answers now read like notes from a designer: short bullets, the numbers behind a decision, and links to the uxspot.io page for any principle it followed.
  • FixedThe conversation follows along again when an answer arrives all at once, so you no longer have to scroll down to find it.
  • FixedThe agent now notices when something it moved hangs off the edge of the screen, and puts it back before handing the screen to you.
  • ImprovedYour daily agent allowance goes further, and it is charged fairly: you are no longer billed for warming up the shared setup the agent uses for everyone.
  • ImprovedA turn you stop, or one that fails, costs you nothing: the agent only counts work it actually finished and handed to you.
  • NewThe Agent tab tells you what is left of your day once you are near the end, so running out is never a surprise.
  • NewYour conversation with the agent stays put when you reload or come back to a file later, so the reasons behind a screen are still there with it.
  • FixedWhen the coach says two buttons compete and you rearrange them, it now recognises that as your attempt: "Show me a better version" unlocks instead of asking you to try again.
  • NewAsking the agent to fix a screen, or to show you a better version, now asks you to confirm first and tells you what is left of your day, so work never starts by surprise. Fix my design asks right on its own button, without covering your screen.
  • NewThe agent now shows what your message carries from the canvas: the layer you picked appears above the box, and you can drop it if the question is not about it.
  • ImprovedYour allowance now reads in credits instead of amounts of money, in the panel and in Settings, so it is clear what you have rather than what anything costs.
  • NewSelect anything on the canvas and a sparkle appears at its corner: ask for changes right there, and the agent picks it up with that layer in hand.
  • ImprovedThe layers list now follows the canvas: picking a layer opens the groups above it and scrolls its row into view, so you never lose your place in a long file.
  • NewSelect a picture and ask about it: the agent now sees the image itself, so you can ask what is in a screenshot or how to redraw it.
  • ImprovedClicking on the canvas now selects what you mean: a click selects the whole group or card, double-click goes inside it, and ⌘-click grabs the exact layer under your pointer.
  • ImprovedThe agent now works in your design tokens: it reads the ones your file has, uses them instead of loose colour values, and can add one when a value belongs to your system. Change a token and its work follows.
  • ImprovedThe agent can look the guidelines up before it designs, and quotes the definition you would read on the site rather than its own words.
  • NewAsk the agent for another width and it makes a linked copy of your screen, so edits to the original still flow into it.
  • NewThe agent can add a page to your file when a piece of work belongs on its own surface.
  • NewVariants: select your components, choose Combine as variants, name their properties right in the layers list ("State=Hover"), and switch an instance between them from the panel. What you typed or restyled on that instance comes with it.
  • ImprovedThe agent knows your components and variants: it reuses what you have built instead of drawing it again, and can switch an instance to the variant you ask for.
  • NewComponent properties: give a component a switch ("Show icon") or a piece of text ("Label"), and every instance can set it without becoming its own component.
  • NewSay what a component is for, and anyone using an instance of it sees that note in the panel.
  • ImprovedA variant set now looks like one: a dashed outline round your variants with a count underneath, and a + to add another.
  • NewGenerate states: select a button and the canvas works out its hover, pressed, focus and disabled look from the fill you chose, and builds the five of them as a linked set ready to place. It uses none of your agent allowance.
  • ImprovedEvery generated state is checked against the words on the button and adjusted until they stay readable, so nothing you place this way can fail the coach on contrast.
  • ImprovedStates now ease instead of snapping, in Preview and in what you export, where they come out as real hover, pressed and focus rules.
  • NewGenerate a type scale: give it a body size and a ratio and the canvas works out eight sizes, from caption to display, with the line spacing already lined up to the grid. It writes them as tokens and draws the specimen on your canvas, and uses none of your agent allowance.
  • NewGenerate a colour ramp: one colour in, eleven shades out, each labelled with the text that can sit on it and which ones are for surfaces rather than paragraphs. Your colour is kept exactly as you typed it.
  • ImprovedGenerate states now knows what it is looking at: a field gets its border states, a checkbox gets checked and unchecked, a switch gets on and off. Each one comes with a focus state and a disabled state.
  • ImprovedLayout grid moved to the bottom of the right panel, just above Export, where you expect to find it. Columns, rows and a square grid, same as before, with shift G to show and hide them.
  • ImprovedHome now shows one card at a time with dots to page between them, instead of stacking them down the sidebar. It never moves on its own.
  • NewGenerate a dark version of any screen. Right-click and pick Generate: the canvas works out the dark palette, keeps your brand colours recognisable, and checks that every piece of text still reads. Your original stays exactly as it was, and it works the other way round too if you design dark first.
  • NewGenerate the loading state of a screen. Text becomes bars on the lines it will fill, pictures and buttons become their own shapes, and the layout stays put, so the skeleton matches what loads into it.
  • NewGenerate accessibility notes over a copy of your screen: the order things are reached by keyboard, whether each tap target is big enough, your heading levels, and the measured contrast of every piece of text. It is the page you hand to a developer.
  • NewSave a local copy of any canvas, from the File menu or with shift cmd S. You get a .uxc file on your own disk that you can back up, email or keep alongside the project.
  • NewOpen a file you saved: from the File menu, the Open a file button on Home, or by dragging it onto Home. It always opens as a new file, so it can never overwrite what you are working on.
  • ImprovedFiles with pictures in them are much lighter. Images are now kept alongside your file instead of inside it, so saving is quicker, duplicating a file no longer copies every picture, and the same image used twice is only stored once.
  • ImprovedThe canvas opens faster on first visit: about 20% less to download before Home appears.

Big files move faster

Dragging and typing on a crowded page are several times quicker.

  • ImprovedDragging a layer on a page with thousands of layers is four times smoother, and typing responds faster too.
  • ImprovedThe coach no longer freezes a big page for a second or two when you pause, and exporting a large page as code is now close to instant.
  • ImprovedLive Checks now keep working on large pages: the Review tab still tells you when a check starts passing on a page with thousands of layers.
  • ImprovedOn slower computers and tablets, dragging on a big page stays smooth: the side panels catch up without holding back the layer under your pointer.
  • FixedOpening a very large shared file no longer freezes the tab: a file with tens of thousands of layers now opens in well under a second, where it could take more than a minute.
  • ImprovedPhotos you paste, drop or use as a fill are stored at a sensible size, so files with pictures stay light, save faster and share more easily. Icons, SVGs and GIFs are kept exactly as they are.
  • ImprovedDesigning with others stays smooth when several people move around the file at once: their cursors no longer slow down your canvas.
  • ImprovedWhen a teammate moves things around in a large shared file, your canvas keeps up several times better, and their edits reach everyone faster.
  • FixedDragging in the colour picker is now a single undo: one ⌘Z takes back the whole colour change, and your earlier history stays intact.
  • ImprovedHome opens without a stall when you have many or large files: previews fill in one by one, and files further down draw as you scroll to them.
  • ImprovedThe Review tab opens faster the first time: its animations now load only when they play.
  • ImprovedThe app opens faster: Home appears before the editor has downloaded, and the editor is fetched quietly in the background so your files still open straight away.
  • ImprovedThe canvas works offline from your first visit: Home, your files, the editor, Review and the default font are all there without a connection.
  • ImprovedThe default font, Inter, now comes from uxdeck itself instead of Google, so opening the canvas no longer contacts Google and text appears sooner.
  • ImprovedPreview no longer keeps working while you sit and look at it, so a design with a lot of motion is easier on a laptop or tablet battery.
  • FixedThe agent can build big screens without the tab running out of memory, and it builds them faster.
  • ImprovedShared files open and respond quicker: joining a large file, uploading an image or moving your cursor no longer waits for the whole file to be read.
  • ImprovedYour own edits are confirmed without being sent back to you, so pasting or generating a lot of layers uses far less of your connection.
  • ImprovedHome opens straight away however big your files are: each card now shows a picture of the file, taken as you work, instead of drawing the whole design again.
  • ImprovedA dropped connection picks up where it left off: coming back takes only the changes you missed instead of downloading the file again, which matters on a slow or patchy connection.
  • ImprovedPhotos placed in older files are tidied up the first time you open them, so those files take less space and save faster. Your layers keep their size and look the same.
