Get started
Name and describe a deck, give it a colour, file it, see what in it needs fixing, and find its site, sharing and export settings.

Every file has its own settings, separate from your account’s. Here you name and describe the deck, set the colour it shows on Home, choose its folder, see how healthy it is, and reach its history. The same place holds the settings for sharing, exporting and publishing the deck as a site.
Open them
- Press ⌘, in the editor.
- Or choose Deck settings in the Deck menu at the top left, or in the file menu under the file’s name.
Settings take the place of the canvas. Press ⌘, again, Esc, or Back to Deck in the menu to return. Use Search settings to jump to any setting by name.
The tabs
Under Deck settings on the left:
| Tab | What it holds |
|---|---|
| General | Name, description, colour, folder, health, coach, history (this page) |
| Sharing | Who can open the file and how. Read Share a file |
| Export | The deck’s code and site downloads. Read Export code, PNG and SVG |
| Site | The published site’s title, address, pages, icons and password. Read Site settings |
| Domain | Your own domain for the site. Read Your own domain |
| Analytics | Who visits the site. Read Site analytics |
At the foot of the list, Account settings switches to your own settings, such as Profile and Preferences. Read Settings.
Name, description and cover
At the top, the deck is shown the way its card looks on Home: its picture, its Name and its Description. Change the name here and it changes everywhere. The description is one line of up to 160 characters, shown under the name on Home.
Under them, a line sums the file up: its pages, its layers, when it was last saved and how many versions it has.
Card and place
- Colour marks the deck on Home with a dot of colour, for everyone in it. Use it to tell projects apart at a glance.
- Folder files the deck in one of your folders. Read Home and your files.
The colour and description belong to the file, so everyone who can open it sees the same.
Health
The Health card counts the deck’s Screens, Flows and Components, then lists anything worth fixing:
- Layers with a broken link: a prototype action goes to a frame or layer that is no longer in the deck. In Preview it does nothing.
- Components nobody uses: no instance anywhere in the deck. Keep them for later, or tidy them away.
- Layers waiting for a picture: an image layer or image fill with nothing in it. It shows empty in Preview, in an export and on a published site.
- Fonts missing on this device: text in them shows in a stand-in until they are added.
- Fonts only on this computer: everyone else sees a stand-in until they are added to the workspace. Read Your own fonts.
Press Show on a line to go back to the canvas with those layers selected and in view. For fonts, Show opens the Design tab, which lists them. When there is nothing to fix, the card says so.
Coach
Muted rules lists the coach rules muted in this deck, with Unmute beside each and Unmute all at the top. A rule muted here stays muted for everyone in the deck. Read The UX coach.
History
- Versions says how many snapshots the deck has and when the last was taken. Open history opens them. Read Version history.
- Archive takes the deck out of Recents and All files. It asks first, and you can restore it any time from the Archive on Home.
Danger zone
Delete deck deletes it from your account, for you and anyone you shared it with. It asks first, and it cannot be undone.
For a deck someone shared with you, this reads Remove from your decks instead: the owner keeps it, and its link brings it back.
Catches
- Archiving or deleting a published deck takes its site offline. Restoring it from the Archive does not bring the site back: publish again.
- Health checks the whole deck, on every page, not just the one you are on.
- Most site settings apply at the next publish. Changing the title or icons does nothing to the live site until you publish again; a password takes effect at once.
