Large files and limits

How big a file, a picture, a video and a published site can be, and what to do when a file gets close to the edge.

Checked against uxdeck on 16 October 2026

Most files never come near uxdeck’s limits. Big ones do: a whole design system on one file, or a large Figma file brought in at once. This page lists every ceiling and what to do when you meet one.

The limits per file and per site are the same on every plan; what your account holds depends on your plan.

Per file

What Limit
Layers 50,000
Pages 200
Layers stored, all pages together 16 MB
One picture 20 MB
One video 50 MB
All the pictures in one file 250 MB
Comment threads 2,000
Comments in one thread 500
Named versions 200
People talking at once in voice 10
A .uxd file you open 400 MB

When a file reaches its layer or page limit, the edit that would go past it is not saved and a message says why, for example “An edit was not saved: a file holds up to 50,000 layers and 200 pages.” Everything up to that point is kept.

Per account

What Free Pro
Picture storage, all your files 500 MB 10 GB
Files of your own 3 Unlimited
Automatic versions kept 30 days 90 days

Named versions stay until you delete them. See Free and Pro for the rest of each plan.

Published sites

What Limit
One file on the site (a picture, a video) 15 MB
The whole site 60 MB

Videos are compressed when you publish so they fit. One that is still too long says “is too long to fit a site’s 15 MB per file, even compressed. Trim it, or link to it on a video site.” See Publish a site.

Bring in a large Figma file

When you drop a .fig file on Home and it holds more than one uxdeck file keeps, uxdeck asks which pages to bring in before anything is sent:

  1. A dialog titled “(file) holds more than one file keeps” lists every page with its layer count and size.
  2. Pages that look like drafts or components are marked drafts or components. A page bigger than a whole file reads more than a file keeps and its switch is off and cannot be turned on.
  3. Turn on the pages you want. The bar below shows how much room they take; “too much, untick a page” means the choice is over.
  4. Press Bring in 1 page (or Bring in N pages).

The other pages can come in later as another file: drop the same .fig again and tick the rest. See Import a Figma file.

When a file gets heavy

  • Split it by purpose. Keep the design system in one file and screens in others; components still work across pages of a file.
  • Delete pages you no longer need, and old explorations kept off to the side.
  • Replace huge pictures. A 20 MB photo rarely needs to be that size; export a smaller one and swap it in.
  • Delete old named versions if you have saved many.
  • Clear resolved comment threads when a file nears 2,000.

Catches

  • Pictures count twice. A picture counts toward the file’s 250 MB and toward your account’s storage.
  • Pictures that did not fit are skipped, not the file. An import can end with “Only part of this file could be kept”, followed by the reason. The layers are there; the pictures that did not fit are not.
  • Large pictures need a connection. Add them while online.
  • Free keeps 3 files of your own. An import past that says “Your plan has no room for another file”.
