.uxd files and uploads

Save a copy of a file to your computer as a .uxd, and bring .uxd files back into your account from Home.

Checked against uxdeck on 16 October 2026

Your files live in your uxdeck account, and every change is saved there as you work. A .uxd file is a copy of one on your own computer: to keep a backup, to send a file to someone outside your team, or to move a design between accounts. Opening a .uxd always makes a new file in your account; it never replaces the one you have.

Save a copy to your computer

In an open file, choose File > Save a local copy, or press ⇧⌘S.

uxdeck gathers the file’s pictures and videos into the copy, so it opens anywhere, even with no connection or if the original is deleted. A large file can take a moment: the toast says it is preparing, then Saved with the file’s name when it is in your downloads.

Press ⇧⌘S: the toast says when the copy is in your downloads.

Bring .uxd files in from Home

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Drop one or more .uxd files anywhere on Home, or press Open a file and choose them.
  3. Each one goes up to your account in the Uploads tray at the bottom right, with its progress. Home stays usable while it works.
  4. When one is done, press Open on its row, or find it among your files.

The tray says Upload complete (or how many uploads are complete) when everything is in. Cancel stops an upload (it asks first: the file will not be added), and Retry tries a failed one again. The same tray shows sites being published.

Open one from inside a file

Choose File > Open a local copy… and pick a .uxd. It opens as a new file, beside the one you were in.

Double-click to open

Once uxdeck is installed as an app (see Install uxdeck as an app), double-clicking a .uxd on your computer opens it in uxdeck. This works in Chrome and Edge on a computer.

Figma files

The same Open a file and drop on Home also take a .fig saved from Figma. See Import a Figma file.

Catches

  • Very large videos or pictures may stay out of the copy. If they do not fit, the toast says how many were left out: the copy shows them only on this computer, or while the file is online.
  • Opening makes a new file. It counts towards your plan’s files; on Free, with no room left, the upload stops and says so.
  • A copy does not stay in step. Changes in the copy and in the original are separate from then on.
  • A very large file may ask which pages to bring in. The others can come in later as another file. See Large files.
  • Older .uxc files from earlier versions of uxdeck still open the same way.
